Transfer Border FAQ
Home

Safe Reflections prints a border around the outer edge of its graphic transfers as part of delivering a premier quality reflective transfer system to its customers. The border is medium gray in color and will not transfer onto fabric substrates. The border is included to prevent polymer and reflective glass bead from leaking out at the edge of the release paper during the heat transfer process. Inferior competitive products tend to leave a pronounced "halo" or "glue line" at the edge of the transfer backing after heat pressing.

Common Questions

How should I handle the transfer to retain the best function of the border?

Avoid dropping the transfers, letting the border edge of the transfer hit the corner of a table, etc. Any rubbing or nicking of the border may tend to reduce effectiveness.

Is the transfer still good if the border is cracked or partially peeled away?

Yes, the transfer is still good if you apply it within 6 months after it was produced.

How can I fix a border that is cracked or partially peeled away?

A thin strip of masking tape can be used to repair the border if needed. Some fabrics and lamination conditions may not require an intact border for acceptable results.

How come I still get a halo even when the border looks OK?

Higher temperatures and higher pressures tend to override the protective effects of the border. Test lower pressures first to reduce the occurrence of the halo.

How do I remove the halo from my garment?

If there is a light haze on the garment near the transfer or halo at the periphery of the transfer it can be removed by first brushing it lightly with a medium bristle toothbrush, then reheating the transfer area for 1 to 3 seconds.  This process can be repeated if condition persists.
