What is Airex® Breathable Reflective Trim?
Airex® Breathable Reflective Trim is a reflective product for occupational work wear that meets U.S. industry standards, while addressing the need for increased durability, comfort and style. Airex® incorporates 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective Material into a revolutionary design that answers the work wear industry's request for safety garments that are cooler, more flexible and durable.
How does Airex® work?
In place of a solid stripe of reflective material, Airex® incorporates smaller segments of Scotchlite reflective material, which are disconnected but closely spaced, into a reflective strip or image. Space between the segments of reflective material allows heat to escape and air to flow through the reflective area. This design keeps the safety garment cooler and more comfortable for the wearer.
What benefits will wearers notice?
When Airex® is applied to a safety garment, wearers will immediately notice the flexibility in the reflective area, which increases comfort and maximizes movement. Wearers will also enjoy the lighter weight and find the garment to be cooler in warmer working conditions.
Did Safe Reflections develop a new reflective material for Airex® trim?
No. Airex® Breathable Reflective Trim incorporates Scotchlite reflective material, a leading reflective technology. Scotchlite reflective material is based on retroreflective technology and is comprised of thousands of tiny, powder-like glass beads that return light back to its original source (such as vehicle headlights).
Is Airex® Breathable Reflective Trim durable?
Yes. Airex® features a proprietary adhesive that allows it to be easily applied to multiple fabric substrates and retain the strongest durability available in a reflective product. After 75 home washes, Airex® maintains its reflective brightness and aesthetic value, while remaining completely intact and adhered to the garment.
What type of work wear can Airex® be applied to?
Airex® meets Level 2 photometric performance and can be applied to all classes of high-visibility work wear as outlined by ANSI standards. Class III safety apparel can include coveralls, jackets and rainwear; Class I and II garments are typically safety vests made from a variety of materials.
How is Airex® applied?
Airex is easy to apply to many different substrates and garment types. Please refer to the lamination instructions for Airex for details.
Does Airex® come in different patterns?
Airex® Breathable Reflective Trim is currently available in one stock pattern and can also be customized to incorporate detailed images, words, logos and graphics. Airex® offers a creative alternative to the standard solid stripes used most often in work wear design and provides a new opportunity for company branding.

Airex® is suitable for all classes of garments as defined by the ANSI/ISEA 107-1999 American National Standard for High-Visibility Safety Apparel. Workers in lower risk occupations, such as parking attendants and delivery vehicle drivers, as well high-risk workers, including emergency responders and highway construction crews, can enjoy the comfort and style benefits of Airex®, while maintaining the
